DOMAINE ARSAC
France
Ardeche
Founded in 1945, Domaine Arsac traces its origins to Gaston Arsac, who returned from war captivity and settled with his wife Thérèse on the Chaumette farm. Passionate about viticulture, he planted the estate’s first vineyard parcels on the hillsides despite challenging conditions, eventually succeeding in producing his own wines.
Sixty years later, his son Joël and grandsons Dimitri and Sébastien took over the estate and converted it to organic farming. They continue the traditional practices passed down by their grandfather: working the vineyards with horses, maintaining grass-covered soils, using compost from the estate’s organic livestock farming, applying herbal infusions, and carrying out both pruning and harvesting by hand.
Their ambition is to express the unique terroir of the volcanic Coiron plateau, where clay-limestone and basaltic soils give the wines freshness, minerality, and remarkable aromatic complexity. Grapes are carefully sorted both in the vineyard and at the winery, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged in concrete tanks, sandstone jars, or oak barrels. Their philosophy is rooted in a deep respect for nature and the rhythm of the seasons a heritage they hope to pass on to future generations.
